The Expanding Role of Bluetooth in Smart Buildings

For smart building systems — such as lighting, sensor networks, and asset management solutions — it’s important to have a reliable and secure interconnected network of devices. Thanks to the 2017 release of the Bluetooth® mesh specifications, Bluetooth technology is now powering large-scale device networks in the smart building. These device networks allow companies to control, monitor, and automate essential infrastructure solutions, enhancing network reliability and improving the lifespan of core systems while ensuring a greater return on your smart building investment.

Historically, waves of innovation and development of the Bluetooth® specifications have enabled new market growth, as was the case for the audio and connected device markets. Bluetooth technology continues to grow following this same historical pattern — Bluetooth innovations are enabling new market opportunities and playing a significant role in the smart building.

Today, Bluetooth member companies ship almost 4 billion Bluetooth enabled devices per year. With its expansion into the smart building and other emerging markets, Bluetooth enabled devices are expected grow to more than 5.2 billion annual shipments by 2022, according to ABI Research.

Watch the video above, The Expanding Role of Bluetooth in Smart Buildings, for a complete look at how large-scale device networks are working in tandem with Bluetooth broadcast-based location services to power today’s smart buildings.
